Welcome to the Gates Department

In Gates we follow a Primary teaching model. Lessons are very structured and a TEACCH ethos is followed.

The National Curriculum and subjects are taught though EQUALS Moving On programmes which offer an all-inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum which can be easily modified to meet the needs of each individual young person.

EQUALs Moving On programmes offer national accreditation for pupils aged 14-19.

The study of these subjects will allow our students to take responsibility for themselves, others and their environment and to understand their place within it.

We aim to give our pupils the opportunity to develop confidence, self-esteem, foster positive attitudes and develop moral and spiritual awareness.

We ensure that the students have numerous opportunities to experience the fundamental British Values of:-
Democracy- opportunities to have voices heard through Leadership and Teaching and Learning groups, choices within the school day.
Rule of law- class rules, visits from local police, PSHE, BRMPs.
Individual liberty- social and emotional learning, SEAL, interaction, PSHE, encouraged to make choices in a safe and supportive environment.
Mutual respect- community visits, People’s Code, PSHE
Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs- community visits, assemblies, RE visits to places of worship, festival days.
